Why free beta?

Posted on by JR

[This article is no longer relevant! Disk Drill is no longer BETA]

We got several requests to explain what exactly we mean by saying that Disk Drill is “free while beta”. Here we are! As you know Disk Drill is in beta stage now, this means that we release all updates now labeled as BETA, and are still testing our software. When the tests are complete and we feel like Disk Drill is ready to go stable, the BETA label will be removed and we’ll officially announce that.

Until that, we confirm that all releases are free, totally free, not a demo, and not a trial version. All functions are available, and we gladly provide technical support for beta versions.

All beta releases are NOT time-limited. They will NOT stop working once  we release the stable version. And your decision to upgrade to future stable releases is absolutely optional, you can stay with free beta version as long as you like.

Update: If you feel like trying this old free beta version of Disk Drill, email us.

About pricing, officially: the final stable release of Disk Drill will still be free, but there will be a more powerful paid edition. We don’t have any exact details as to how the features may be split between these two.

Concerning recovery if Disk Drill was not installed in the system when the files were deleted: in this case you can use either Quick Scan or Deep Scan, as Recovery Vault will not help of course. How well these recovery methods may work, and whether the files can or cannot be recovered, depends on many many factors, no one can reply to this positively. Have a look at our built-in tutorial for details on these recovery methods.

I have the same question as Juan (about pricing).

Also, I’m especially interested in how well this product will work when it wasn’t installed ahead of time.

I’m a Mac consultant, and at least once a month I get a call from a user who never backed up, and now needs me to recover files. I especially like the ability to recover files from FAT and NTFS disks, since not all of my customers are Mac users.

Hi Juan, I tried to reply to this question by email, but your mail server considers our emails to be spam. Can you either whitelist cleverfiles.com or contact me (help@cleverfiles.com) from the alternative email address?

I would like to know what price range we are talking about when Final Release is out.
If it´s going to be quite expensive perhaps I´d rather try anything else!
